Turning sketches inspired by Ancient Vessels into Jewellery
Across the UK, many ancient burial grounds have presented many curious artefacts in the form of earthenware vessels. They are often highly decorated with indentations of repeat pattern.
Little is known about these vessels but it is thought that they might have been used by our ancestors to carry or store grain from harvest that would be vital to sustain a household.
These vessels which were found in Kilmartin Argyll inspired me to create line drawings with pen on paper. I then took the quality of the line into metal to interpret these ancient patterns into pieces of jewellery. I created hand forged tools to make indentations into the metal surface and forged wire to echo the drawn lines.
