Snowy Weekend in Norway.
To begin 2026, we got on a flight to visit a friend of mine from Art School who is now living in Jessheim, outside Oslo. Upon arrival we went for a walk; following ski tracks through the woodland, noises quietened by the snow.
The following day we woke to fresh coffee and homemade waffles with Norway’s signature brown cheese. We then set off for the train into Oslo. We went ice skating and the low winter sun cast dramatic shadows across Vigeland Sculpture Park.
As the darkness set in, temperatures dropped to around -17 degrees celcus, the perfect excuse to visit the Sauna and take a dip in Oslo Fjord.
The following day, we spend many hours pouring over artefacts in The National Museum, seeking inspiration from decorative Norwegian carpentry and patternwork of traditional knitwear. I also got to swoon over contemporary jewellers like Tone Vigeland and Liv Blavarp which were big inspirations to me as a student. We left as the sun was setting over Oslo Fjord, enough time to catch a cosy drink by the fire at SALT before getting our train.
We closed the evening with a walk around one of Jessheim’s reservoirs; frozen and covered in snow. I loved the pace of Norway, maybe it was just the snow but everything felt slower and quieter.
